Windhager Variowin boiler in boilerhouse

A recent installation commissioned in May 2012 showing a Windhager VarioWin Exclusive boiler which was installed to replace an existing oil fired system. The biomass system included the supply and installation of an unvented Gledhill 300l Solar lite cylinder and a full weather compensation system controlling the boiler output. The Exclusive model incorporates ash compaction which only requires the ash to be removed every 1.2 tonnes of fuel burned, typically four times per year. The choice of the VarioWin allowed easy installation into the existing heating distribution system without the need for any accumulation tank as the biomass boiler can modulate its output from 3.6 kW to 12kW.

Lothian Renewables carried out all aspects of the installation from performing initial heat loss calculations for the building, system design, installation and commissioning.

The Biomass boiler is expected to consume 5000kG of pellets per year, replacing 2200l of oil and qualified for a £950 payment under the RHIPP scheme.

A simulation of the boiler in operation can be viewed here.
