Biomass Boiler installed in 16th Century Blacksmiths  outside toilet!

Lothian Renewables turned this 16th century blacksmiths toilet, which is now a two bedroom cottage between Haddington and Gifford , into a 21st century Biomass Boiler Room.

The dimensions of the outhouse were perfect for the boiler (a 15kW Biotech MPW Manual Feed) and an 800 litre Amox thermal store with stainless steel high efficiency coil for mains pressure domestic hot water production. One of the benefits of the 15kW Biotech is that all maintenance issues can be accessed from the front and no access to the back or side of the boiler is required. As the boiler is manually fed (although it can be fitted to an automatic feed) the 180kg internal hopper is of great benefit to the customer. We used a 5” twin lined HETAS approved flue.

The cottage was previously heated by a coal stove with a back boiler which needed the ash emptied 3 or 4 times a day, the customers are very happy that they now have to empty the ash pan of the Biomass Boiler 3 or 4 times a year! They have also greatly reduced their co2 emissions as well as benefitting from reduced fuel costs and significant payments from the RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive). They commented on how straight forward they found the RHI application.

It was another very successful install from Lothian Renewables, contact us for more information.
